ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Montessori teacher is a guide who helps direct his/her

students activities physically, emotionally, academically and socially in a prepared Montessori

environment that challenges each child individually to reach his/her fullest potential in these

developmental areas, in accordance with the Montessori philosophy and procedures for the Primary

classroom (ages 3-6)

  • Presents individual and group lessons to the students, supporting each child’s direction and success, utilizing school curriculum, current research, and Montessori Albums
  • Prepares the Montessori classroom and outdoor environment to meet the students’ needs and interests
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and provides parent reports per district policy
  • Identifies pupil needs, makes appropriate referrals and implements strategies for individual education plans
  • Collaborates daily with classroom assistant and provides direction for classroom maintenance,

management, and students’ academic and social progress

  • Communicate with the school community about the classroom curriculum
  • Maintains a safe environment for students, conducive to learning
  • Participates in ongoing self-assessment and professional development
  • Anticipates and effectively addresses crises according to School Crisis Plan
  • Complies with State Law and District policies and regulations
  • Performs all other duties as may be assigned or directed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills

and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of state and national standards, district curriculum and instructional materials and assessments
  • Uses a variety of assessment tools on an ongoing basis in order to fairly evaluate and make further
  • decisions about a child’s unfolding development
  • Supports school and district mission and vision
  • Utilizes effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates flexibility, dependability, organization and collaboration
  • Establishes rapport with peers and parents
  • Is willing to participate in district training
  • Demonstrates lifelong learning
  • Evidence of problem solving ability

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Arts Degree
  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Primary Montessori Certificate: Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) or American Montessori
  • Society (AMS)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Maintains valid certifications, fingerprint card and highly qualified status. Observes teacher calendar
  • and all Osborn School District policies. Base salary determined at time of hire and evaluated yearly
  • according to approved Governing Board ranges and approved professional growth.

EVALUATION

  • Performance evaluated by building principal and/or other approved qualified evaluators.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises students, classroom employees and volunteers.
