Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Speech Language Pathologist Assistant supports the Speech Language Pathologist with providing direct, skilled speech therapy services to students.

 

Job Responsibilities

Essential Functions: __ Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Attend and actively participate in all appropriate Child Study Team (C.S.T.), Section 504, Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (M.E.T.), and Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.) team meetings.
  • Complete all State and Federally required paperwork within required timelines.
  • Provide individual and group speech-language services to students as described in the IEP and 504 plans.
  • Become familiar with the operation of instructional equipment and materials as well as office machines for preparing material.
  • Prepare quarterly, or more frequent if needed, progress reports on each assigned student to include in the quarterly grade reporting process.
  • Complete all MEDICAID reports and requirements in a timely manner.
  • Participate in District training as appropriate
  • Travel between more than one school may be required
  • Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Student Services, immediate supervisor or site principal

 

 

Job Requirements

 

Knowledge of

  • Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Record maintenance and retention policies and procedures.
  • General office policies, procedures, and equipment.
  • Child development and learning.
  • Behavior management.
  • Process for developing and implementing IEPs.

 

Skill in

  • Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding the progression of language development
  • Developing and implementing IEPs
  • Adapting learning environments and curriculum to meet special needs.
  • Preparing clear and concise reports.
  • Maintaining accurate records and technical documents.
  • Interacting professionally with District staff, students, and outside agencies.
  • Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Operating a computer and related software.
  • Capable of performing general clerical duties
  • Ability to work with students with communication disorders on a one-to-one or small group basis
  • Ability to work with bilingual students preferred.

 

 

Education and Experience:

AA/Bachelors Degree in Speech-Language Pathology or completion of an approved training program as outlined by Arizona Revised Statutes

 

Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:

Current licensure from the Arizona Department of Health Services (A.D.H.S.).

Valid SLPA certification

Must possess a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

A valid State driver’s license may be required.

 

Work is performed in an office and classroom environment and requires the operation of standard office equipment such as personal computer and related software, fax machine, and copy machine. May be exposed to potentially contagious illnesses from students.
